Matron of the Ely Ladies of Kaleva Vellamon Tupa #4.
(We are the longest continuous meeting Tupa. We’ll be 120 years old in 2025.)
What being Finnish means to me: I love the temperment of Finnish people – and the fact they are consistently found to be the happiest country! My Finnish roots are important to me. I try to keep the Finnish traditions of my grandparents alive and well. Saunas are important (especially at the lake where you can take 5 steps out of the sauna and be in the lake).
I make Finnish biscuit (pulla), creamed rice, Finnish tarts, and all sort of other fun Finnish dishes. From the time I was a little girl, I was always referred to as “the little Finlander” (probably because of my blonde hair and blues eyes. I love Iitala glass, Toikka birds, and anything Marimekko!
